About the Role:
We are hiring 3-5 Associate Lawyers (2025–2026 call) who are eager to develop deep expertise in employment law. This is a permanent position with a minimum 1-year commitment.
This role is ideal for early-career lawyers who are ready to move quickly from supporting senior counsel to managing their own client files in a fast-paced, rewarding environment.
Compensation: Full Compensation package commensurate with experience and competitive with comparable downtown employment and labour boutique firms. Year one $85-105k plus benefits.
Type of Position:
The position is an associate lawyer who will initially assist more senior lawyers with files to eventually transition to a file-carrying lawyer responsible for their own clients/files.
Therefore a successful candidate will possess both strong research and drafting skills as well as high interpersonal skills necessary for direct client-facing work within a short timeframe.
This is a hybrid position - 4 days per week in office to start, decreasing down to 2 days with more seniority.
Responsibilities Include:
- Drafting of Factums, Motion Records, book chapters, online articles, promotional materials, various one-off tasks relating to employment files;
- The ability to work quickly to deadlines on novel assignments;
- The ability to multitask and take on numerous tasks at once with high quality results and have a high level of production;
- Working independently and following instructions from senior counsel;
- Regular interaction with potential and current clients;
- Effective management of deadlines and priorities;
- Direct supervision and delegation of support staff;
- Superior communications, drafting skills and strong attention to detail;
- The ideal candidate would transition to being a file-carrying litigation lawyer, which would include management of files from beginning to end at various stages of negotiation and litigation;
Preferred Candidates Skills/Requirements:
- High emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills for client-facing work.
- Ability to manage a high-volume workload in a deadline-driven environment.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
- Excellent reliability and professionalism
- Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a positive attitude;
- Tech-savvy and proficient with Microsoft Office, PC, and Mac systems.
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada.
Assets (Preferred, Not Required):
- Previous experience in employment and labour law.
- Courtroom or tribunal experience (“on-your-feet” experience).
Training
This role will require intensive training between September and October, successful candidates must be available during this time and no other pre-planned trips etc.
