Residential Care Worker (RCW) – Strathroy Residence Job Overview
Strathroy Residence is a supportive housing program dedicated to providing a safe, structured, and compassionate environment for adults experiencing mental health challenges, addictions, and cognitive barriers. We are seeking dedicated and reliable Residential Care Workers (RCWs) who are passionate about supporting individuals in achieving stability, independence, and improved quality of life.
The RCW plays a vital frontline role in providing daily care, emotional support, and supervision while promoting dignity, respect, and recovery-oriented practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily support and supervision to residents in a residential setting
- Assist residents with activities of daily living , housekeeping, and medication dispensing
- Build supportive, therapeutic relationships with residents while maintaining professional boundaries
- Monitor resident behavior, mental health status, and overall wellbeing
- Respond appropriately to crisis situations using de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques
- Maintain accurate documentation including daily logs, incident reports, and medication records
- Support residents in developing life skills, coping strategies, and independence
- Facilitate recreational, educational, and social programming
- Ensure the residence remains clean, safe, and welcoming
- Follow all policies, procedures, and health & safety guidelines
- Work collaboratively with the care team and external service providers
Qualifications & Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Social Services, Community Support Worker, Developmental Services, or related field preferred
- Relevant experience working with individuals experiencing mental health challenges, addictions, or cognitive disabilities considered an asset
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
- Medication administration training or willingness to obtain
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification
- Valid driver’s license required
