General Accountability
The Electrical Studies Engineer is responsible for conducting engineering studies that ensure compliance with customer, code, and regulatory requirements in a timely manner. This role involves making critical decisions, providing recommendations related to the studies, and approving the work completed by others. The Electrical Studies Engineer must have a strong technical understanding of client specifications, as well as code and regulatory standards. They will independently prepare detailed design calculations, drawings, and reports. Additionally, the Electrical Studies Engineer will oversee the work of others, ensuring both team performance and their professional development.
Specific Accountabilities (not all-inclusive)
- Prepare & Review detailed studies and reports including:
o Arc flash, short circuit and coordination.
o Harmonic.
o Grounding and touch potential.
o Other technical reports that are required.
- Create & Review drawings and models using AutoCAD, Etap and SKM.
- Occasional site visits to acquire information for design and installation of new equipment and retrofits
- Responsibility for creating drawings, studies, Programming, and designs.
- Responsible (First) for approval of drawings (Wiring diagrams, single lines, three lines, bill of materials, cable sizing and other assembly schematics, etc..) control panel, switchgear/protection wiring design and studies by the Design and Studies team.
- Reviewing and estimating materials/component and equipment (BOM).
- Other duties and tasks as assigned by your manager to ensure REV’s goals and objectives are met.
- Performs all duties so as to meet the responsibilities listed in REV’s Safety and Human Resources Policy Manual.
- Performs duties according to REV’s quality system procedures and work instructions.
- Accountable for approval of studies and programs by the Studies team.
- Accountable for customer, scope of work (project and commercial), standards, and code compliance for all/assigned projects.
- Accountable for approving calculations, studies, programs and other designs criterium to ensure compliance with customer, code, and other applicable standards and requirements.
- Accountable for Preparation and verification of technical reports, studies, drawings, and Authentication (P.Eng sign off).
- Leading and performance and mentorship reviews for direct reports.
- Accountable for maintaining and creating schedules.
- Document management.
- Accountable for the coordination of department staff with other team members, vendors and clients.
- Accountable for interfacing directly with project managers, clients, electrical utilities and regulatory agencies (Electrical Safety Authority, municipalities, etc.) to ensure that designs comply to all customer and regulatory requirements.
- Accountable for shop assistance with assembly and fabrication.
Qualifications
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent education/training from an accredited Canadian institution is required.
- Registered Peng.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
- In depth knowledge of construction methods and installation details related to the Canadian Electrical Code (CSA C22.1).
- Experience with design of Industrial Control Panels (CSA C22.2 No. 14) would be an asset.
- Experience in the Electrical design of LV/MV switchgear or other relevant electrical equipment or assemblies would be an asset.
- Good knowledge of ETAP and SKM electrical design software.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD is considered an asset.
- Strong computer proficiency and knowledge with Microsoft Office.
- Well organized with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with deadlines and changing priorities.
- Reliable team player with a professional and positive approach.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in a positive and constructive manner while simultaneously building credibility and rapport in relationships.
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
- Experience with standardizing parts.
- Knowledge in heat simulations/models and calculations.
- NETA Accreditation would be an asset as well as field experience.
