Summary
The 2nd Class Stationary Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of high-pressure steam boilers, pressure vessels, and associated mechanical systems in accordance with the Technical Standards & Safety Act and Ontario Regulation 219/01. This role is vital to maintaining plant safety, optimizing equipment performance, and supporting continuous facility operations in compliance with all provincial codes and industry standards.
We are looking for one (1) experienced and skilled 2nd Class Engineer for our facility in Hamilton, Ontario.
Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain high-pressure steam boilers
- Conduct routine inspections and ensure compliance with TSSA safety standards and company protocols.
- Maintain optimal water chemistry by performing boiler water tests and adjusting chemical feed rates.
- Troubleshoot and repair issues related to pumps, motors, fans, compressors, valves, and HVAC equipment.
- Record and maintain accurate logs and reports of plant operations, maintenance activities, and incidents.
- Assist in plant shutdowns, startups, and annual TSSA inspections; ensure readiness of pressure equipment.
- Participate in energy conservation, safety audits, and emergency preparedness programs.
- Ensure strict adherence to Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Environmental Protection Act requirements.
Qualifications:
- Valid 2nd Class Operating Engineer Certificate of Qualification issued by TSSA (Ontario).
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience operating high-pressure boilers and related equipment in an industrial or institutional setting.
- Strong knowledge of:
Ontario Regulation 219/01 – Operating Engineers
Boiler and pressure vessel operation and safety
Thermodynamics, combustion, and control systems
Experience with TSSA inspections, compliance documentation, and recordkeeping.
