POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Apprentice is responsible for the routine maintenance and troubleshooting of production equipment. This position is responsible for checking the production equipment daily and ensuring it is ready for operation. This involves cleaning equipment, changing and greasing machinery parts, and reporting problems to the supervisor. The apprentice is also responsible for major repairs, overhauls, building maintenance and other project-oriented tasks as assigned. This is a learning position, and the apprentice is expected to seek assistance from a licensed millwright or from the department manager when unsure of proper work procedures or job hazards. Training will be provided before tasks are assigned and before the apprentice is expected to work independently.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Performs daily, routine preventative maintenance inspection of equipment, including equipment lubrication, filter cleaning, etc. Reports any deficiencies or safety concerns to the Maintenance Manager.
· Greases all equipment and checks all filters. Performs all mechanical tasks needed to make equipment repairs.
· Assists in major equipment maintenance. Helps to take apart pumps and gelimats for repair. Removes FCM shafts for repair. Removes extruder screw for cleaning. Uses these opportunities to develop knowledge and skill in equipment maintenance.
· Performs MP2 maintenance program files update.
· Performs Welding, use of cutting torch, and Fabrication required.
· Able to use the CMMS Program and CMMS mobile app to log completed work orders, including preventative maintenance and repairs, along with hours, parts used, and task details.
· Follows all Health and Safety regulations explicitly. Reports on any concerns to the Maintenance Manager.
· Records hours worked on each job.
· Works on special projects with supervisor, maintenance or safety committee members, as required.
· Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to the spirit of total quality and continuous improvement in performing the position duties.
· Ability to work independently and with others.
· Regular attendance required.
· Able to change work hours as needed with little notice.
· Able to work extended hours (overtime, weekends, and holidays) when required with little notice.
SCOPE AND DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY
Routine work for which general instructions are provided. Some analysis required in decision making. All activities are governed by policies and procedures, but some freedom exists for selecting action. All difficult or unusual situations are referred to supervisor for resolution.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Formal training and knowledge required, equivalent to High School Education. Applies general clerical/trade knowledge and skills. Understands basic methods, records, specifications and/or equipment within own work unit.
Must have completed or be currently enrolled in a pre-apprenticeship program approved by the Skilled Trades Ontario (through the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training & Skills Development).

This is a unionized position and the pay rate is per the Collective Agreement.
It is expected that apprentices will be working for approximately 4 years (8000 hours) at Colortech before being eligible to write their millwright exam.
Schedule of work: M-F 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 PM p.m. with a possibility of OVERTIME on weekends.
