Job Summary
The Assistant Restaurant Manager supports the General Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the restaurant, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, operational excellence, and a positive work environment for everyone. This role assists with supervising, coaching, and developing the restaurant team while ensuring all food is prepared and served in accordance with Mr. Greek operating standards, quality assurance, food safety, and health and safety regulations.
The Assistant Restaurant Manager plays a key role in maintaining restaurant performance by supporting labour management, inventory control, food quality, cleanliness, and overall operational standards. In the absence of the General Manager, the Assistant Restaurant Manager assumes responsibility for restaurant operations and ensures the restaurant continues to operate efficiently while delivering an outstanding experience for guests and team members.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily restaurant operations, ensuring food quality, guest service, cleanliness, and operational standards are consistently maintained.
- Ensure all food is prepared and served in accordance with Mr. Greek operating standards, recipes, quality assurance requirements, and food safety regulations.
- Lead by example in delivering exceptional hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences while maintaining Mr. Greek's service standards.
- Train, coach, supervise, and develop team members to ensure consistent execution of Mr. Greek operating standards and exceptional guest service.
- Assist with employee scheduling, shift coverage, and payroll administration to ensure appropriate staffing levels and support operational and financial goals.
- Oversee the completion and accuracy of all opening, mid-day, and closing checklists, including temperature logs, food safety documentation, cash controls, cleaning logs, and other required operational records
- Support inventory ordering, receiving, stock control, and product rotation to maintain product quality and minimize waste.
- Assist in monitoring restaurant sales, labour, food costs, inventory, and waste while supporting initiatives to improve profitability.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and security procedures.
- Maintain the cleanliness, appearance, equipment, and overall condition of the restaurant through regular inspections and preventative maintenance.
- Assume responsibility for restaurant operations in the absence of the Restaurant General Manager.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in a supervisory or Assistant Restaurant Manager role in a high-volume restaurant or QSR environment.
- Strong knowledge of restaurant operations, food safety, inventory management, labour scheduling, and financial controls
- Experience using Point-of-Sale (POS) systems and restaurant technology platforms.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coach, motivate, and develop team members.
- Passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences and building a guest-focused culture.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, coaching, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other standard business applications.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation, with the ability to travel to other restaurant locations as required.
- Valid Smart Serve and Food Handler certifications are required. Standard First Aid certification is considered an asset (or must be obtained within the probationary period)
Working Conditions and Physical Capabilities:
- Work schedules are based on business needs and will vary from week to week. This position requires flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- The expected work schedule is a minimum of 44 hours per week. Weekly schedules will be established by the Employer in consultation with the Employee based on operational requirements.
- The Assistant Manager is expected to ensure adequate operational coverage, which may include adjusting schedules, working extended hours, or covering shifts during unexpected staffing shortages.
- Occasional overtime may be required to support business and operational needs.
- Work is primarily performed indoors, with occasional travel outside the restaurant for activities such as catering deliveries, business development, bank deposits, or other operational duties.
- Regular exposure to hot and cold temperatures, cooking equipment, and commercial kitchen environments.
- Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all health and safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift up to 25 kg (55 lbs), and perform repetitive bending, reaching, and carrying as required in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
Pay: $19.03-$30.16 per hour
