About the Job
Want real advancement and steady OT?
Coachable and ready to show up and put in the work?
Join Terrace Group as an Equipment Operator Apprentice. No prior construction or machine operation experience is needed. You’ll start on the ground providing critical equipment and site support—learning how jobs are run, what "good" and "done" look like, and mastering job-site safety from the ground up. As you build your foundational experience, you'll earn seat-time operating heavy machinery, maintaining commercial properties, and keeping project sites moving under dispatch.
We invest in you with paid training, certifications, a clear career ladder, and raises tied to performance—not just time served or previous experience. Simply put: you get paid to learn. If you like tight crews, clean gear, and visible results every shift, you’ll fit right in.
Role (Execution-First)
Provide hands-on ground support, master job site execution standards, and systematically gain seat-time on heavy machinery. Follow dispatch, work alongside site leads, and keep equipment and projects mission-ready—every cut clean, every load secure, every log accurate.
What You’ll Do
- Ground Support & Site Learning: Start on the ground mastering job execution—learning site layout, material handling, prep work, and seeing firsthand what a finished, high-quality job looks like.
- Operate & Scale Up: Earn real-world seat-time as you demonstrate reliability, progressing toward full mastery of Street Sweepers, CTL Skid Steers, Front-End Loaders, and Excavators.
- Site Execution: Perform site prep, parking lot sweeping/maintenance, driveway installations, gravel pad grading, excavation, demolition, and site irrigation.
- Hauling & Logistics: Drive Class 5 vehicles with trailers to safely haul tools, materials, equipment, and debris to and from job sites across Winnipeg.
- Tool Operation: Daily usage of power tools, masonry saws, backpack blowers, and plate compactors to deliver flawless project finishes (full training provided).
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform thorough daily pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections; report defects promptly to maintain high uptime and safety.
- Documentation: Keep tight timesheets, trip logs, material tracking, and photo documentation via mobile app.
What Success Looks Like
- Mastery of the Standard: Quickly grasping how tasks are executed on the ground and knowing exactly what "done right" looks like before operating the machine.
- High-Quality Output: On-time service that meets contract standards and service windows.
- Safety & Care: Zero preventable incidents; strong safety habits and equipment care every shift.
- Accurate Records: Flawless inspection records, timesheets, photos, and material logs.
- Team Growth: Positive client feedback, strong internal quality scores, and steady progression into equipment operator roles.
You Bring
- Valid Class 5 License with a clean abstract (no at-fault accidents in the last year).
- No experience required—prior construction, landscaping, or mechanical exposure is a bonus, but a great attitude and willingness to learn are what count!
- Comfort using hand tools, power tools, and performing heavy physical work (up to 50 lbs).
- Comfortable with early mornings, long shifts, and overtime as project demands require.
- Strong situational awareness; clear radio and app communication.
- OK with all-weather outdoor work plus manual physical labor (shoveling, grading, loading).
Worksite Reality
Construction and maintenance seasons are high-intensity by design. You'll start on your feet providing ground support before stepping into the cab.
