UHN is recruiting Occupational Therapy (OT) & Physiotherapy (PT) Clinical Externs to work under the direct and/or indirect supervision of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists to provide support to patient care.
JOB SUMMARY:
The OT & PT clinical extern will be working in the capacity as an unregulated health care provider. Occupational Therapy / Physiotherapy clinical externs work in collaboration with the clinical team under direct and/or indirect supervision of an appointed UHN Occupational Therapist and/or Physiotherapist.
Externs will be hired on contract, working a minimum of 7.5 hours per week. The scheduling of these hours will be determined based on department needs, supervising therapist availability and may include weekday or weekend shifts.
This role:
Supports provision of quality occupational therapy or physiotherapy services to patients at UHN within the framework of patient centred care
Provides assistance during therapeutic sessions with lifting, turning, transferring, transporting and ambulating as per the hospital policy.
Assists in completing therapeutic tasks including cognitive therapy as well as exercise and walking program
Cleans, checks, sets up and organizes equipment
Communicates effectively with members of the interprofessional team
Perform all other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Occupational therapy students in any year of study in a training program accredited by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists or Physiotherapy students in any year of study of a training program accredited by Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada
Previous hospital experience as an employee, learner or volunteer an asset
Previous experience in clinical placement an asset
Good problem solving skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Able to work independently and in a team
Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Available to work daytime shifts on week days or weekends until March 2022
