About The Role
Join a dynamic team as the Health and Safety Manager and play a key role in creating a safer and healthier workplace. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, you will be a vital member of the corporate management team, leading the charge in shaping and overseeing our Health and Safety programs across Canada.
Responsibilities
- Lead the commitment to safety by ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation at two Canadian business locations, with the main location in Cornwall, Ontario and another location in Lachine, Quebec.
- Stay ahead of the curve by monitoring regulatory changes and advising on any impact on our operations.
- Lead and support Industrial Hygiene Monitoring, Hazard Communication, Radiation Safety, Incident Investigations, and general IH procedures and programs.
- Develop safety programs to minimize injury rates.
- Act as a management representative at the JHSC.
- Responsible for observing all company occupational health and safety rules. This ensures your personal safety and the safety of others and assists the company in promoting safety at work for all employees.
- Refine, develop, and maintain organizational health and safety policies.
- Influence and assist in the implementation of Health and Safety initiatives.
- Assist in communications for management, staff, and Joint Health and Safety Committees using internal and external resources on Health and Safety compliance requirements, including WHMIS, First Aid, Fire Plan, Fall Arrest, and Lockout Tagout.
- Provide regular reporting and recommendations to senior management on health and safety statistics and performance.
- Liaise with external agencies including the MOL, WSIB, OSHA, and HSE.
- Coordinate corporate facility audits and set audit standards.
- Review incident trend data to identify key risk areas, then establish and execute a plan to eliminate the identified risks.
- Act as a coach and mentor to supervisors and other staff on Health and Safety matters and best management practices. Coordinate all related industrial hygiene monitoring as required.
- Manage all WSIB claims, including leading appeal hearings.
Requirement
- A Bachelor’s Degree preferred, ideally in Occupational Health and Safety.
- CRSP, Canadian Registered Safety Professional, and/or CHSC, Certified Health and Safety Consultant, designations.
- Expert knowledge of Canadian health and safety legislation and programs.
- Knowledge of Quebec health and safety legislation would be an asset.
- 10 years of leadership experience within Health and Safety, ideally gained in a unionized manufacturing environment.
- Exceptional communication, facilitation, and training skills in health and safety.
- Analytical and strategic skills to evaluate best practice approaches to the design and implementation of Health and Safety programs.
- Proven ability to drive improvements in Health and Safety programs.
- WSIB claims management experience is essential.

Pay: $100,000.00-$115,000.00 per year
