Weaver Group Ltd. is currently seeking an experienced QC Advisor – Pipeline Construction to support pipeline construction projects in Alberta.
Reporting to the Pipeline QC Manager, the QC Advisor will provide field-level quality control support throughout pipeline construction activities. This position is responsible for monitoring and verifying construction work, coordinating inspection and testing requirements, maintaining quality documentation and traceability, identifying deficiencies and non-conformances, and supporting project turnover.
We are looking for someone with strong pipeline construction knowledge who understands that quality is more than completing paperwork. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in an active field environment, identifying issues early, communicating effectively with construction and inspection personnel, and maintaining accurate, defensible quality records.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor pipeline construction activities for compliance with project specifications, drawings, procedures, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), client requirements, and applicable codes and standards.
- Perform field quality inspections and verification activities.
- Monitor quality requirements associated with material receiving and traceability, stringing, bending, fit-up, welding, coating, lowering-in, tie-ins, backfill, pressure testing, and related pipeline construction activities.
- Verify required hold points, witness points, inspections, and testing activities are completed and documented.
- Monitor welding activities for compliance with approved procedures and project requirements.
- Verify applicable welder qualifications and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate and track Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) activities and review associated results and documentation.
- Monitor coating inspection, testing, repairs, and holiday testing.
- Maintain weld, NDE, coating, material traceability, inspection, testing, and repair records.
- Identify, document, and track deficiencies and non-conforming work.
- Prepare and administer Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) as required.
- Monitor corrective actions, repairs, and reinspection through closure.
- Coordinate with third-party inspectors, NDE providers, testing agencies, and client representatives.
- Maintain accurate, complete, traceable, and auditable QA/QC documentation.
- Support pressure testing activities and associated quality documentation.
- Support compilation and review of project quality turnover packages.
- Escalate significant, recurring, or unresolved quality concerns to the Pipeline QC Manager.
- Participate in project meetings, inspections, audits, and quality reviews as required.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in pipeline, oil and gas, industrial, or related construction.
- Previous experience in Quality Control, QA/QC, Pipeline Inspection, Welding Inspection, or a comparable field quality role.
- Strong understanding of pipeline construction practices and quality control requirements.
- Knowledge of pipeline welding, NDE, coating, material traceability, pressure testing, and quality documentation.
- Working knowledge of applicable pipeline codes, standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, alignment sheets, specifications, engineering documents, procedures, and ITPs.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and communicate quality concerns effectively.
- Ability to work independently within assigned responsibilities and collaboratively as part of a project team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and digital project documentation systems.
- Relevant welding, inspection, coating, NDE, quality, or technical certifications are considered an asset.
- Experience on Alberta pipeline construction projects is considered an asset.
Work Environment
This is a field-based position supporting active pipeline construction projects. Candidates must be prepared to work in outdoor construction environments and may be required to work rotational schedules, extended hours, remote assignments, and camp-based projects depending on project requirements.
