Job Summary
The HCA Instructor is responsible for delivering comprehensive training and educational programs to aspiring healthcare assistants, focusing on enhancing their clinical skills, theoretical knowledge, and practical competencies. This role involves developing curriculum content, supervising student progress, and ensuring adherence to accreditation standards. The instructor will play a vital role in preparing students for real-world healthcare environments, including hospitals, Long-term Care homes, community living, and clinics, with an emphasis on patient care, nursing fundamentals, and medical terminology. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to the development of future healthcare professionals through engaging classroom, laboratory, and online instruction.
Duties
- Design and deliver engaging lectures, practical demonstrations, and laboratory sessions aligned with curriculum standards.
- Supervise student activities during clinical simulations and real-world patient care scenarios.
- Assess student performance through examinations, assignments, and clinical evaluations; provide constructive feedback.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of LMS platforms, such as Blackboard, and related tools to facilitate online learning modules.
- Incorporate current research findings into course content to ensure evidence-based teaching practices.
- Collaborate with healthcare facilities to coordinate clinical placements in acute care settings, geriatrics, and hospital environments.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation requirements and institutional policies related to healthcare education.
- Support students' academic progress by providing mentorship and guidance on career pathways in nursing and patient care.
- Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum reviews, and professional development activities to enhance instructional quality.
Experience
- Supervising experience in healthcare settings or educational environments preferred.
- Proven teaching experience in classroom or laboratory settings within healthcare education programs.
- Experience conducting or applying research related to healthcare education or clinical practices.
- Background in acute care nursing, hospital experience, or pediatrics highly desirable.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and patient care procedures essential for effective instruction.
- Prior laboratory experience supporting hands-on training in clinical skills development is advantageous. The HCA Instructor position is integral to fostering competent healthcare professionals equipped with the necessary skills for diverse clinical environments. The role emphasizes excellence in teaching methodology combined with practical application to ensure students are well-prepared for their careers in patient care and nursing disciplines.
- HOLD BCCNM Registration and in good standing
- Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners (e.g., completion of Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent education or previous teaching experience with satisfactory references or positive performance evaluations and student course evaluations).
- Two or more years of full-time Canadian nursing experience (1 year = 1400 work hours) with relevant knowledge of the Canadian health care system, the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members and current policies and procedures within residential and community care settings. Nursing work experience to include:
- Experience in working with older adults with complex health needs; and
- Experience or orientation (e.g., shadow shifts) in home support and multi-level/complex care.
- Evidence of completion of the Health Care Assistant Practice in BC course available on the LearningHub as part of their orientation/on-boarding. This will support a current understanding of the role of the HCA within BC.
Abbotsford Schedule:
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 4pm-10pm
Expected Start Date: June 2026
Surrey Schedule:
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9am-3 pm
Expected Start Date: July 2026
Pay: $40.00-$43.00 per hour
