Position Summary
The Welding Supervisor is a hands-on position responsible for supporting and overseeing daily welding operations while actively working in the fabrication environment.
The position helps ensure welding work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with CWB certification requirements, approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), and company quality standards.
The Welding Supervisor provides day-to-day guidance to welders, coordinates welding activities, and works closely with the Production Manager and other teams to support production requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Welding Operations & CWB Compliance
- Perform hands-on welding and fabrication work as required to support production.
- Ensure welding is performed in accordance with approved WPS and applicable CWB requirements.
- Monitor welding parameters, techniques, and workmanship to help prevent defects and non-conformances.
- Conduct visual inspections and coordinate rework or corrective actions as required.
- Support CWB audits, welder qualification testing, and related documentation requirements.
- Provide practical guidance and support to welders regarding welding procedures and quality requirements.
Production & Team Coordination
- Coordinate daily welding activities based on production priorities.
- Provide day-to-day direction and support to welders.
- Communicate production priorities, progress, and issues to the Production Manager.
- Coordinate with Quality, Engineering, Material Handling, and other teams to support production flow.
- Escalate equipment, material, drawing, or quality concerns promptly.
Safety & Housekeeping
- Follow and reinforce company health and safety policies and PPE requirements.
- Identify and address safety hazards within the welding area.
- Promote safe welding and fabrication practices.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient welding workspace.
Required Qualifications & Experience Certification
- CWB Welding Supervisor qualification under CSA W47.1 is required. Candidates who are eligible to obtain the qualification may be considered, provided the qualification can be obtained within the required timeframe.
- Valid CWB qualification for MCAW/FCAW – flat position required, or experience and ability to obtain the required qualification.
- Other relevant welding qualifications are considered an asset.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of welding-related experience, preferably in steel fabrication.
- Experience in a Lead Hand, Welding Supervisor, or similar shop-floor leadership role is an asset.
- Experience working in a manufacturing, fabrication, or modular construction environment is an asset.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, including MCAW, FCAW, and GMAW.
- Ability to understand and follow Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Strong attention to welding quality and workmanship.
- Practical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong hands-on welding skills and technical knowledge.
- Ability to provide practical direction and support to other welders.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to safety and quality.
- Ability to organize and coordinate shop-floor work.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- This is a hands-on position in a fabrication shop environment and may also involve work at construction sites.
- Exposure to welding equipment, noise, dust, fumes, and varying temperatures may occur.
- Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required.
- The position requires standing for extended periods and working in various positions associated with welding and fabrication work.
- Must be physically capable of safely performing the requirements of the position, including handling materials as required.
- Occasional overtime or extended hours may be required to meet project or production schedules.
