The Impact of This Role
At SmartD, we value individual initiative and technical execution. In this position, you will:
- Drive Disruption: Directly contribute to the design and build of test infrastructure that takes our next-generation motor control technology from prototype to certified product.
- Enable Sustainability: Play a key role in bringing to market a product that significantly reduces global industrial energy consumption.
- Lead Technical Outcomes: Take ownership of lab setup design, test execution and reporting, UL/ETL documentation, lab inventory systems, and lab cleanliness — seeing your work go from the bench to a finished product used in the real world.
What You Bring
- Technical Expertise:
- Soldering across through-hole and fine-pitch SMT on FR4 and MCPCB — required
- Electronic troubleshooting down to the component level, with power electronics context — required
- Test plan execution and structured test report writing — required
- Exposure to operation manuals for UL, ETL, or equivalent third-party test submissions — required (Authoring is a plus)
- Reading electrical schematics and making 3-phase 600 Vac connections — required
- Oscilloscope, DMM, and standard lab instrumentation fluency — required
- Setting up and managing an efficient system to monitor lab components inventory — required
- Maintaining the lab clean and organized at all times — required
- Quebec Electrician License "C" (Compagnon électricien) — an asset
- Motor control or VFD domain exposure — an asset
- LabVIEW or Python for test automation — an asset
- Experience: 5+ years as an electronics technician in a hardware development environment — required
- Language: Professional English is required for international collaboration (operation manuals and reports are written in English); French is an asset for our Montreal-based operations.

Our Hiring Process
We respect your time and maintain a transparent, 3-step process:
- Introductory Call (20 min): A general discussion via Google Meet to align on interest and fit.
- Technical Discussion (30 min): A technical deep-dive with the Department Head via Google Meet.
- On-Site Interview (1 hour): An in-depth technical meeting with your future colleagues and a tour of our lab.
Pay: $35.00-$40.00 per hour
