The Role
This position directly supports two lawyers within a fast-paced, high-volume environment. In addition to a robust family law litigation practice, one of the lawyers manages an active Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practice encompassing Mediation, Parenting Coordination, and Arbitration. This offers a unique opportunity for an organized assistant to handle diverse files across both traditional litigation and specialized ADR frameworks.
Primary Responsibilities
- Practice Support: Provide comprehensive assistance to two lawyers, balancing the administrative needs of family law litigation and a busy ADR practice.
- ADR & Litigation Coordination: Schedule and coordinate multi-party meetings, mediations, arbitrations, and parenting coordination sessions.
- Document Drafting: Draft, format, and proofread correspondence, pleadings, legal documents, and specialized ADR agreements with a high degree of accuracy.
- Calendar & File Management: Maintain complex firm calendars, track deadlines, and meticulously manage the Bring Forward (BF) system.
- Client & File Management: Conduct initial client intakes, organize extensive file materials, and handle high-volume email correspondence.
- Administrative Duties: General office administration to ensure daily operations run smoothly.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Legal Administrative Assistant certificate or diploma from a recognized institution (Required).
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience as a legal assistant, with family law experience strongly preferred. Exposure to mediation, arbitration, or parenting coordination processes is a major asset.
- Technical Proficiency: Solid hands-on experience with Soluno/Actionstep, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Divorcemate, Adobe, BC Online, Zoom, and NetDocs.
- Time Management: Exceptional ability to prioritize a high volume of tasks and manage competing deadlines across multiple practices.
- Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, a mature and reliable work ethic, and a genuine desire to provide empathetic service in family law.
- Discretion: Ability to exercise sound judgment, strict confidentiality, and professionalism at all times.
Compensation
- An annual salary of $60,000 - $80,000 commensurate with experience
