Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Skilled Labourer/Lead Hand to join our construction team. This role involves overseeing and executing various aspects of construction projects, ensuring quality workmanship, safety, and efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in multiple trades, including carpentry, masonry, electrical work, and concrete finishing, with the ability to read blueprints and schematics. As a Lead Hand, you will coordinate team efforts, manage materials, and ensure project deadlines are met while maintaining high safety standards.
Duties
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction plans to guide project execution
- Operate hand tools, power tools, heavy equipment, and machinery safely and effectively
- Perform concrete forming, finishing, and restoration tasks with precision
- Install cabinetry, flooring, tiles, and perform construction painting and caulking
- Conduct plumbing, electrical work, masonry, welding, and carpentry tasks as needed
- Assist in construction estimating and material planning for projects
- Lead and supervise team members to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and safely
- Maintain a clean and organized worksite, adhering to safety protocols at all times
- Coordinate with project managers to meet deadlines and quality standards
Requirements
- Proven experience in construction or related trades such as carpentry, masonry, electrical work, or concrete finishing
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings accurately
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, heavy equipment operation, and specialized trade skills (e.g., welding, plumbing)
- Strong knowledge of construction safety practices and protocols
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to supervise teams effectively
- Physical ability to perform demanding tasks including lifting heavy materials and working at heights or in confined spaces
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
