Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Soil Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for collecting soil tests, completing sample submissions and deliveries to and from the lab located in Edmonton. This role requires a good spatial and directional awareness, attention to details and basic computer skills. MUST UNDERSTAND THE DOMINION LAND SURVEY SYSTEM AND USE THIS SYSTEM TO NAVIGATE FIELDS. Must also have a working knowledge of Western Canadian Agriculture or equivalent. The Soil Technician will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of the soil analysis process.
Responsibilities
- Conduct soil sampling and testing in various locations to assess soil fertility and composition.
- navigate using various GIS and navigational tools to locate fields and points for soil capture
- Collect and record data accurately for reporting purposes.
- Collaborate with supervisor on land locations, field names, farmer names and completions
- Prepare reports summarizing soil submissions for the lab
- Maintain sampling equipment and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Keep vehicle and equipment in a safe and working order
Skills
- Strong llocation and directional awareness
- Some understanding of GIS software, for mapping and spatial analysis or guidance for driving to locations
- Excellent writing and organizational skills
- Mechanical knowledge to assist with equipment maintenance or troubleshooting.
