Meridian Housing Foundation has been providing lodge living to seniors for over 60 years. We are seeking a new team member in our Food Services department. This casual position will be weekend coverage with the ability to pick-up more. Cross-training options are available as well.
Position Summary
The Kitchen Helper supports the Food Services team in the preparation and service of meals for seniors residing in our lodge. Working closely with the cooks, this role assists with food preparation, meal service, kitchen organization, and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards. The Kitchen Helper plays an important part in creating a positive dining experience and ensuring residents receive high-quality meals in a welcoming environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties and responsibilities of this position shall include but not be limited to the following:
- Light cooking (evening meals).
- Assists with preparing and serving meals.
- Cleans kitchen and kitchen equipment.
- Washing dishes and maintains clean working area.
- Cleans floors.
- Assists in receiving and storing food orders.
- Restocks fridge.
- Labels and stores away leftover food.
- Assists with setting tables.
- Answers the telephone and residents calls.
- Refills chemicals as needed.
- Documents all necessary information in communication binder.
- Completes general kitchen and cleaning tasks to support department.
- Participates in workplace inspections, department record keeping and creating safe work practices.
- Assists residents requiring help.

Organization & Time Management: Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and work under pressure.
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to read and follow standardized recipes, communicate and work as part of a team in a busy kitchen atmosphere.
Cooking skills: Be able to prep a variety of menu items for lunch and supper service.
Problem Solving: Ability to adapt to changes and solve any issues that may arise.
Successful candidates must have reliable transportation because there is no transit available to our location in Stony Plain.
