Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Program Team, and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Values and Management Philosophy of the St. Boniface Hospital, the MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST is responsible for: transcribing cardiology reports; batch printing transcribed reports; performing the necessary computer interface and computer back-up duties; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Experience

One (1) year medical transcription experience.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

Grade XII or recognized equivalent.
Successful completion of a recognized medical secretarial program that included transcribing medical terminology -or- successful completion of the Medical Transcription Program at Red River College
Certification/Licensure/Registration

Qualifications and Skills

Keyboarding speed: 60 wpm.
Medical transcription speed: 35 wpm *
Dictatyping skills.
Ability to work in a Windows operating environment
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
Ability to retain information which is of a confidential nature.
Good interpersonal communication skills.

  • Note: Applicants will be required to complete a medical transcription speed test administered by the Department.
