The Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre is located in the city of Wetaskiwin 70 km south of Edmonton. The Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre provides services to the residents of the city of Wetaskiwin, Wetaskiwin County and the four Bands of Maskwacis. The population catchment area is approximately 35,000. The hospital has 70 acute care beds and 107 long term care beds, and is the only collection site for community patients. Our site provides a busy and dynamic work environment for those who enjoy challenging their skills as a Medical Laboratory Assistant I. This Laboratory Assistant I position is responsible for providing and performing the highest quality service possible to the clients of the clinical laboratory. This is done in an effective, efficient, and safe manner. Specifically this position performs specimen procurement and processing, home collections using safe practices, procedures including ECG’s and Holter monitors, clerical duties, Quality Assurance practices including tracking of missing specimens and reports, reporting errors/incidents using appropriate documentation and reports results within the scope of activity of a Medical Laboratory Assistant.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Additional Required Qualifications:
Recent relevant experience performing procedures in a core laboratory. Laboratory procedures include phlebotomy (venipuncture and micro puncture), specimen collection, preparation and referral. Experience performing ECG and Holter monitors. Effective communication in English is essential. Excellent inter-personal and customer service skills required. Ability to work independently in a dynamic and fast paced environment required. Demonstrated ability to promote good teamwork, initiative, good judgement, flexibility, and attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure and in emergent situations, demonstrating tact and courtesy when dealing with patients, staff and physicians. Proficient in computer skills required. An excellent attendance record, reliability and personal suitability must be demonstrated through your employment references.
Experience in Meditech LIS, MUSE, and Cardioday.
