Are you a passionate nursing leader who is committed to delivering exceptional resident-centered care? Plan A Toronto is seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Resident Care (DORC) to provide leadership within a respected long-term care environment.
As the Director of Resident Care, you will be responsible for leading the nursing and personal care team, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care, quality of life, and regulatory compliance. This is an exciting opportunity for a strong clinical leader who is dedicated to continuous improvement, staff development, and fostering a culture of excellence in senior care.
This is a 3-6 month contract with the possibility of extension or continued employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Accountable for ensuring the highest standards of resident care, safety, and quality of life through the development, implementation, and evaluation of resident care programs.
- Promote and provide resident-centered care consistent with the Residents' Bill of Rights.
- Lead and oversee nursing and personal care services in accordance with applicable legislation, professional standards, and organizational policies.
- Ensure compliance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, College of Nurses of Ontario standards, and all relevant regulatory requirements.
- Lead the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of clinical programs, including Falls Prevention, Skin and Wound Care, Continence Care, Pain Management, Behaviour Management, Infection Prevention and Control, and other quality initiatives.
- Foster a culture of continuous quality improvement and evidence-based practice.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, coaching, and performance management to nursing and personal care staff.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, orientation, training, succession planning, and staff development initiatives.
- Manage employee relations matters, including performance improvement plans and progressive discipline where required.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with residents, families, team members, volunteers, healthcare partners, and the community.
- Monitor staffing levels, resource utilization, equipment, and supplies to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.
- Participate in accreditation activities and quality assurance initiatives, including CARF Accreditation processes.
- Monitor departmental budgets and financial performance to support operational excellence and fiscal responsibility.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support exceptional resident outcomes.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse with a current Certificate of Competence and registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Post-RN education in nursing administration and management is required.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience as a Registered Nurse within the long-term care sector.
- Minimum three (3) years of leadership experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity within a healthcare setting.
- Current CPR (Health Care Provider Level C) and First Aid certification.
- Strong clinical knowledge and assessment skills with demonstrated experience leading high-performing care teams.
- Excellent leadership, communication, conflict resolution, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven ability to foster teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Proficiency in oral and written English.
- Cultural sensitivity and the ability to communicate in Cantonese and/or Mandarin is required.
- Strong computer literacy and experience working with electronic health records and clinical software systems.
- Current Tuberculosis screening (Two-Step Mantoux).
- Proof of current immunization status in accordance with organizational policies.
- Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check (within the previous six months).

Pay: $70.00 per hour
