The Information Technology department provides business operations support to all MSC Leaders and Employees at all levels in the organization, across Canada. The support provided is related to all business applications/systems currently used by the company. The IT Department is also responsible for researching, remaining current in their field, and providing recommendations or permanent solutions to existing or potential IT problems.
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Specialist work with a company’s EDI program, maintaining smooth communications for production using EDI tools ensuring smooth transitions when changes or maintenance are required. This generally consists of tasks such as handling inbound/outbound documents, conducting auditing, handling relevant documents, and networking with partners. EDI Specialist work extensively with information technology (IT) staff and other employees to ensure the EDI program is working as intended. Daily activities performed by EDI Specialist include serving as the initial contact for troubleshooting inquiries, monitoring document transmissions, and identifying opportunities to improve relevant processes. They perform audits to ensure quality standards are being met on a regular basis, and they are also usually responsible for conducting training to keep staff up to date on technology changes.
Implement routine monitoring, reporting, logging, and notifications for EDI transmissions and EDI data quality.
Work with internal stakeholders to understand, align business needs for EDI processes and systems, implement and track improvements.
Work with external stakeholders to onboard partners (terminals, container yards, rail, truck, invoice customers, and track & trace) and new EDI interactions for various EDI systems and standards.
Develop and maintain partner relationships and build EDI improvements strategy & roadmap.
Develop customized programs and scripts, configuring ERP applications for EDI
Supports the business by troubleshooting EDI for end-user/partner issues.
Performs Root Cause Analysis on problems, document and provide end-users with technical how to’s.
Tasks may vary per individual as required by department for cross-training and/or business requirements
Qualifications and competencies

BS/BA in information technology or computer science
5 years of experience working with EDI role (developer, analyst, specialist or similar)
Knowledge of data transmissions & messaging protocols (VAN, FTP, SFTP, FTPS, MQ, AS400)
Knowledge of ANSI X12 standards
Knowledge of EDIFACT standards
Knowledge of structured language formats, APIs, and system integrations (CSV, XML, JSON; REST, SOAP, OPEN)
Experience working with ERP & financial systems.
Experience with scripting (powershell, cmd/bat, VBS, python, UNIX and FTP)
Experience in Transport (Ocean freight & Rail, Truck & Supply Chain)
Experience in Accounting EDI (AR/AP & invoicing)
