Role Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining facility infrastructure, utilities, production equipment, and support systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This position performs preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities while assisting with equipment installations, facility improvements, troubleshooting, and regulatory compliance requirements.
The Maintenance Technician works independently on routine maintenance tasks and repairs while supporting the Maintenance Manager with larger projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and production support activities. This role may provide guidance and training to Maintenance Helpers and other employees as required.
Key Responsibilities
1. Facility Maintenance & Equipment Reliability
Daily
- Perform routine inspections of facility equipment, utilities, and infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and basic plumbing issues.
- Respond to maintenance requests and work orders in a timely manner.
- Support production operations by addressing equipment issues to minimize downtime.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance work area.
- Follow all company safety policies and regulatory requirements.
Weekly
- Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, compressors, production equipment, and facility systems.
- Inspect and test safety systems including emergency lighting, fire alarms, and emergency shut-off devices.
- Document maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and completed work orders.
- Monitor inventory levels of maintenance supplies and spare parts and communicate replenishment needs.
Ongoing
- Diagnose equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Assist with installation, modification, and upgrades of machinery, facility systems, and safety devices.
- Conduct predictive maintenance activities to improve equipment reliability.
- Support facility improvements, renovations, and infrastructure projects.
- Assist in developing maintenance procedures and equipment documentation.
- Train and support Maintenance Helpers in safe maintenance practices and basic repair procedures.
2. Production Support & Fabrication
- Provide technical support during production activities to maintain operational efficiency.
- Assist with fabrication of machine components, brackets, guards, fixtures, and replacement parts.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, machine shop equipment, and 3D printing equipment where applicable.
- Assist with equipment modifications and process improvements.
- Participate in testing and implementation of new equipment and technologies.
3. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with company policies and applicable regulations.
- Assist with facility inspections and corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and logs.
- Identify potential safety hazards and recommend corrective measures.
- Support emergency response activities when required.
4. General Operations
- Coordinate with production and quality teams to ensure facility readiness.
- Assist with contractor supervision during maintenance and construction projects.
- Support seasonal property maintenance activities, including snow removal and grounds upkeep.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, reliability, and cost reduction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Trade certification or technical training considered an asset.
- 2–5 years of maintenance, industrial, manufacturing, or facility maintenance experience preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong troubleshooting and repair skills.
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and plumbing systems.
- Ability to read technical drawings and equipment manuals.
- Experience using hand and power tools safely.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification is an asset.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces when required.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to respond to occasional after-hours maintenance emergencies.
