Economy Paving is seeking an experienced and dependable Heavy Equipment Operator to join our field team. This position supports commercial and civil development projects, with work focused on excavation and earthworks, asphalt paving, subgrade preparation, and aggregate placement.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate excavators, dozers, graders, skid steers, packers, and other construction equipment as assigned.
- Complete excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, material placement, compaction, and site preparation.
- Construct subgrades and aggregate bases to the required lines, grades, slopes, and elevations.
- Support paving operations by preparing surfaces, moving materials, and maintaining work areas.
- Read and follow construction drawings, grade stakes, site plans, and survey markings.
- Perform daily equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and promptly report mechanical concerns.
- Work safely around ground crews, trucks, utilities, structures, and other equipment.
- Follow all project safety, environmental, and quality-control requirements.
- Assist with general site duties when equipment operation is not required.
Qualifications
- Previous heavy equipment operating experience in commercial, civil, earthworks, or paving construction is required.
- Experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment is preferred.
- Strong understanding of excavation, grading, subgrade preparation, and compaction procedures.
- Ability to work accurately to specified grades and elevations.
- Comfortable working near underground utilities and in active construction areas.
- Reliable, safety-focused, and able to work effectively with supervisors and ground crews.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation are preferred.
- Equipment certifications and construction safety training are considered assets.

This is a field-based position involving outdoor work in changing weather conditions. Candidates must be available for early starts, extended hours, and occasional weekend work during peak construction periods.
Pay: $33.00-$40.00 per hour
