Elder Abuse Advocate – Part Time (2 days/week)
Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes (CCCKL) is currently seeking a Part Time Elder Abuse Advocate / Older Adult Advocate to join our dedicated team. Reporting to the Clinical Program Manager, this position plays a critical role in supporting older adults experiencing or at risk of abuse through assessment, advocacy, safety planning, system navigation, and community collaboration.
The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of elder abuse, trauma-informed practice, and community-based support services. They will work collaboratively with clients, families, healthcare providers, legal services, and community organizations to promote safety, autonomy, and wellbeing for vulnerable older adults throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Assess and respond to situations involving suspected or reported abuse of older adults
- Develop and implement safety plans and intervention strategies to mitigate risk
- Support clients in accessing legal, healthcare, social, and community services
- Collaborate with community agencies, multidisciplinary partners, and internal teams to ensure coordinated care and client safety
- Advocate for older adults while respecting autonomy, choice, and self-determination
- Participate in the Elder Abuse Network, outreach, education, and community awareness activities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners and service providers
- Liaise and coordinate services across internal and external stakeholders to support client needs
- Promote diversity, inclusion, cultural safety, and respectful practice in all interactions
- Maintain accurate, timely, confidential documentation in compliance with legislation and organizational policies
- Manage referrals, client records, and data entry using electronic systems
- Ensure documentation supports continuity of care and potential legal requirements
- Maintain current knowledge of elder abuse, dementia, vulnerability factors, and best practices
- Participate in professional development and quality improvement initiatives
- Promote workplace health and safety standards and practices
- Perform other related duties as required

KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION
- Post-secondary education in Social Service Work, Community Health, Gerontology, Human Services, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- 3–5 years of experience in elder abuse prevention, domestic violence, community health, social services, advocacy, or related field
- Experience in client assessment, crisis intervention, advocacy, and system navigation
- Knowledge of community services and supports for older adults in the City of Kawartha Lakes
- Training in trauma-informed practice, patient/health navigation, or cultural safety considered an asset
- Strong understanding of elder abuse, dementia, and vulnerability factors in older adults
- Demonstrated skills in de-escalation, critical thinking, problem-solving, and conflict resolution
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Strong organizational, time management, and coordination skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to health equity, cultural safety, diversity, and inclusion
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, electronic documentation systems, email, and web-based platforms
- Demonstrated leadership and community engagement abilities
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle
- Current Heartsaver Level C CPR certification
- Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Screening required
COMPENSATION:
The wage range for this exciting opportunity is $26-89-$29.44 per hour.Selected candidates will be appropriately placed on the organizations wage grid based on skill, knowledge and experience.*
