Finance Assistant

Reporting to the Director, IT and under the day-to-day supervision of the Business Officer, the Finance Assistant provides general finance and office support for the Discovery Commons. Key duties include: processing financial transactions; reconciling accounts; resolving discrepancies; ensuring transactions adhere to financial policy; responding to queries; gathering information and providing reports and/or documents.

Qualifications:
(Minimum)

Education:
Completion of Ontario College Advanced Diploma or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:
Minimum two (2) years of experience performing financial transaction processing and administrative support. Knowledge and experience interpreting and applying financial policies and procedures of the University of Toronto and working with its financial information system (FIS) preferred. Experience working in a university, government, or healthcare setting would be considered an asset. Experience reconciling accounts, resolving discrepancies, and managing databases and generating financial reports.

Skills:
Advanced computer skills with MS Office. Solid understanding of accounting, purchasing, accounts receivable, accounts payable. Ability to quickly gain a good understanding of systems.

Other:
Demonstrated oral and written communications skills; effective problem-solving; demonstrated organizational skills. A good communicator with established customer experience skills, including serving as the first point of contact in a busy environment. Ability to work independently and as a team member; ability to multi-task and work accurately while under the pressure of timelines. Ability to effectively prioritize tasks. Good judgment, initiative, flexibility, ability to deal in an effective and cooperative manner with a variety of people.
