The Peer Support Worker provides practical, encouragement-based support to individuals accessing employment and community services. Drawing from lived or shared experience, this role helps participants navigate services, build confidence, and stay engaged in their employment journey.
Peer Support Workers complement service teams by offering relatable guidance, connection, and motivation while reinforcing participant choice, dignity, and self-determination.
Participant Support & Engagement
- Build trusting, supportive relationships with participants through shared understanding and lived experience.
- Provide encouragement, motivation, and practical support to help participants remain engaged in employment services.
- Support participants in identifying goals, strengths, and next steps related to employment readiness and stability.
- Assist participants with navigating appointments, services, and community resources as needed.
Service Navigation & Coordination
- Help participants understand available employment and community supports.
- Support participants in preparing for meetings, referrals, or service appointments.
- Reinforce information provided by service teams in a relatable and accessible way.
- Communicate participant needs, barriers, or concerns to the appropriate service staff while respecting confidentiality and boundaries.
Group & Community Support
- Facilitate or co-facilitate peer-based activities, workshops, or group discussions as required.
- Encourage positive peer connections and mutual support among participants.
- Promote inclusive, respectful, and safe environments for peer engagement.
Advocacy & Empowerment
- Support participant self-advocacy by helping individuals articulate needs, preferences, and goals.
- Encourage participant choice and informed decision-making.
- Model positive coping, problem-solving, and resilience strategies based on lived experience.
Documentation & Feedback
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to participant engagement, as required.
- Share insights and feedback to support service improvement and participant outcomes.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, and training activities.
Required
- Lived or shared experience relevant to employment, workforce re-entry, or navigating community services.
- Strong communication, empathy, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
- Comfort working with individuals facing employment-related barriers.
- Basic documentation and administrative skills.
Preferred
- Experience in peer support, community engagement, or employment services.
- Training in peer support, trauma-informed practice, or recovery-oriented approaches.
- Knowledge of local employment and community support resources.
- Experience facilitating or supporting group activities.
Pay: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
