Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to lead the design and implementation of scalable data architecture solutions within a modern AWS Lakehouse environment. This role will be responsible for developing enterprise data models, establishing governance standards, and partnering with business and technical teams to support data-driven decision-making.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in data modeling, cloud data platforms, and data governance, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable and efficient data solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain enterprise data models for Data Lakes, Data Warehouses, and Lakehouse environments.
- Develop logical and physical data models that support business intelligence, analytics, and reporting requirements.
- Define and enforce data architecture standards, governance frameworks, and best practices.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, data engineers, analysts, and architects to understand data requirements and deliver scalable solutions.
- Design and optimize data structures within AWS technologies including S3, Glue, Iceberg, Redshift, and Athena.
- Support data integration, transformation, and migration initiatives across enterprise systems.
- Ensure data quality, consistency, security, and compliance with organizational standards.
- Analyze existing data environments and recommend improvements to performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Participate in architecture reviews and contribute to long-term data strategy and modernization initiatives.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams throughout the data lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience designing data models for Data Lakes, Data Warehouses, and Lakehouse environments.
- Strong expertise in data architecture, data structures, metadata management, and governance frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with AWS data technologies including:
- Amazon S3
- AWS Glue
- Apache Iceberg
- Amazon Redshift
- Amazon Athena
- Advanced knowledge of data modeling methodologies including dimensional modeling, normalized modeling, and enterprise data modeling techniques.
- Proven experience implementing data governance standards, policies, and best practices.
- Strong understanding of cloud-based data architecture and modern data platform design.
- Experience translating business requirements into scalable, high-performance data solutions.
- Knowledge of performance optimization and cost management within cloud environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within banking, financial services, insurance, or other highly regulated industries.
- Experience supporting large-scale data modernization or cloud transformation initiatives.
- Familiarity with data lineage, metadata management, and data cataloging tools.
- Experience working in Agile project environments.
Pay: $70.00-$80.00 per hour
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Toronto, ON M5J 1E5
