About the Position
Chess for Life @ University of Lethbridge is looking for a Program Coordinator to support the delivery and growth of our community chess programs in Lethbridge.
Chess for Life provides chess programming for people of all ages and backgrounds. Our programs take place in schools, community organizations, and other settings throughout the community. We work with children, youth, adults, and seniors and aim to make chess accessible, engaging, and beneficial for participants.
The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of programming in Lethbridge and will help develop new programs and partnerships within the community.
This position is 20 hours per week, with the possibility of additional hours as the program grows.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver chess programs for children, youth, adults, and seniors.
- Work with schools, community organizations, agencies, and other local partners.
- Help develop and expand Chess for Life programs in Lethbridge and surrounding communities.
- Prepare lesson plans, educational resources, and other program materials.
- Communicate with participants, families, partner organizations, and community members.
- Respond to program inquiries by email and other communication channels.
- Assist with organizing chess events, tournaments, workshops, and community activities.
- Maintain program schedules, attendance records, and other administrative records.
- Maintain and update the Chess for Life website.
- Assist with research activities as directed by the Research Coordinator.
- Attend community meetings and events on behalf of Chess for Life.
- Complete other program and administrative duties as required.
QualificationsRequired
- Experience working with children, youth, adults, or community programs.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of chess and familiarity with the rules of the game.
- Experience using common computer software, including Microsoft Office 365.
- Basic knowledge of website editing or content management.
- Valid driver's licence and access to reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel within Lethbridge and surrounding communities.
Preferred
- Education or experience in education, recreation, youth work, community development, social services, or a related field.
- Experience teaching or facilitating chess.
- Experience developing or coordinating community programs.
- Experience maintaining a website or creating online content.
- Experience working with community organizations or nonprofit programs.
- Experience supporting research or evaluation activities.

Compensation and Hours
This is a part-time position of approximately 20 hours per week. There is potential for additional hours as the program expands.
Mileage for approved travel related to the position will be reimbursed.
