This position has a term length of one year plus one day from the date of hire.
Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at Augustana Campus, Camrose, AB.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Security Coordinator and as required to the on duty Patrol Services Division Sergeants, the Augustana Security Liaison is the “eyes and ears” of the University community. They will be detecting and reporting incidents that may be disruptive to University operations, of the safety and security of persons and property. Agents prevent loss or damage within a building, facility or space utilized by the University of Alberta and/or those to whom the University is contracted on either a temporary or permanent basis. This position provides a presence at Augustana Campus that includes but is not limited to: libraries, residences and administrative buildings.
University of Alberta Protective Services (UAPS) is an authorized employer of Security Agents under the Alberta Solicitor General Public Security Program. Agents must hold an Individual license under the Security Services and Investigators Act. Employees at this range do not carry the extensive range of investigation and enforcement requirements and functions; they do not require an accredited baton, use of force training or police cyclist course, are not trained or authorized to make a criminal code arrest.
This position will mainly work afternoon and evening shift hours during the main business week (Monday - Friday), up to 40 hours a week. There may also be requirements to work extended hours in the event of an emergency or special events.
The Campus Operations & Services team supports the University of Alberta through a range of essential services and works for operating, maintaining and renewing infrastructure across our campuses.

Proactively patrol Augustana Campus in Camrose and act as the first contact for safety and security for the campus.

Enforce campus security policies and regulations in a firm and professional manner.

Assist with access control, ensuring only authorized individuals are allowed entry to restricted areas.

Provide information and assistance to the university community and guests/visitors.

Collaborate with campus authorities and local law enforcement when necessary.

Maintain accurate logs and reports of daily activities and incidents.

Conduct regular patrols of the campus to monitor for any suspicious activity or security breaches.

Assist in building evacuations for life/safety incidents, and provides perimeter security and crowd control during emergency operations.

Respond promptly to any security incidents or emergencies that arise during your shift.

Liaise daily with contract security staff on site.

Parking enforcement for Augustana campus.

Welfare checks on staff and students.

Dealing with trespassers (e.g., trespassing, enforcing active trespasses against individuals, and keeping records of trespassing).

Minimum high school education by Alberta Education standards (or equivalent).

Strong communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.

Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.

Must be punctual, reliable, well groomed and have a keen eye for detail.

Must posses a valid Alberta security license.

Ability to work day shifts, including some weekends, evenings and holidays as needed.

Occasional call-out for assistance with access control or a critical incident is also required.

Obtain clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector check.

Experience with Microsoft Windows and Google applications.

Must live within a reasonable commuting distance to the workplace.

Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 (non-GDL) driver’s license.

Must be able to provide a recent copy of a three-year driver’s abstract with no more than six (6) demerits and/or two (2) moving violations within the last two years.
