You have a High School diploma and completion of a Red Seal in Plumber, Steamfitter, Sprinkler Fitter or Sheet Metal and a Journey Person Certificate (interprovincial), plus seven (7) years of related experience in commercial/institutional building construction and maintenance or an acceptable equivalent of education and experience will be considered.
You must have at least three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
Frequent travel across the province is a component of this position; as such, a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
You demonstrate an excellent working knowledge of the following:
- National Building Code of Canada;
- National Fire Code of Canada;
- Canadian Electrical Code;
- Occupational Health and Safety Act and General Regulations; and
- current construction safety practices and procedures.
Your ability to work within financial constraints, along with reading and interpreting specifications and drawings are essential to your success in this role. Also essential to this position are strong public relations skills, planning and organizational skills as well as good verbal and written communications skills.
You ensure the effective management of human and financial resources by setting and evaluating staff performance targets, ensuring safety policies and procedures are adhered to, promoting diversity and a healthy workplace, demonstrating leadership competencies, respecting corporate human resources practices, promoting teamwork and individual development, maintaining internal communications, monitoring expenditures while adhering to procurement guidelines.
Safety training in the following are considered assets: First Aid certification and CPR, WHMIS, Scaffolding Safety, Fall Protection, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and Confined Space Awareness. Formal training in Project Management, a good knowledge of government procurement policy and tendering procedures are also considered assets.
