Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Office Assistant to join our team at an ophthalmology clinic in Ottawa. The ideal candidate will provide administrative support in a medical office setting, ensuring smooth operations and excellent patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Schedule appointments and manage the office calendar through an electronic medical record system
- Answer patient phone calls and emails, recognize urgent medical issues over the phone that need to be addressed same day
- Greet patients in a professional and friendly manner
- Check in patients by verifying their identification and medical insurance
- Assist with patient intake, including updating the patient's medical history
- Manage patient records and ensure they are accurate and up to date
- Assist with insurance verification and billing processes
- Maintain office inventory and order supplies as necessary
- Reconcile accounts payables/receivables, and produce financial statements on a regular and timely basis
- Must be willing to cross-train in ophthalmic technician responsibilities such as taking a visual acuity, taking patient's eye pressure, putting in eye drops, and taking diagnostic imaging of patient's eyes
- Assist physician and medical staff with administrative tasks as needed
Experience:
- Diploma in Medical Office Assistant is preferred
- Previous experience working in a medical office or healthcare setting is preferred
- Familiarity with medical EMR, billing OHIP, and the ability to handle a high volume of calls
- Knowledge of medical terminology and ophthalmic procedures is a plus
- Strong work ethic, organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
