Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement. 100% remote working is available for candidates across Canada outside of Waterloo Region and surrounding areas in Ontario.
The Opportunity: Equitable is looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our Individual Insurance team! The Senior Underwriter plays a key role in risk assessment for both life and critical illness products. This position is critical to Equitable success and is a great opportunity to work at one of Waterloo Region’s Top Employers while developing skills for the future.
What you will be doing:
- Apply strong and holistic underwriting expertise in all areas of underwriting, including medical, financial and non-medical risk factors
- Consistently provide a superior quality of work
- Manage volumes of daily work independently to ensure service standards are met
- Provide a first-class client experience
- Comply with legislative requirements, consumer regulation and reinsurance treaties as they apply to privacy, disclosure and risk classification
- Contribute to continuous enhancement of underwriting processes and procedures
- Provide mentorship to other underwriters, offering guidance and sharing your expertise
What you will bring:
- Bilingual in French and English is an asset
- Superior technical knowledge in medical, financial, and non-medical underwriting
- Comfortable in a dynamic work environment with the flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities
- Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities
- Strong reinsurance relationships with excellent negotiation skills
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal
- Excellent relationship skills – proactive and service-oriented is key!
- 3+ years of demonstrated professional experience as a Life and Critical Illness Underwriter
- FLMI / FALU designation or currently working towards
- Commitment to continuous learning and participation in education enhancement to remain current with medical knowledge and industry underwriting trends
- Good knowledge of MS Office Suite
