As a Junior Group Underwriter, you will assist with various tasks related to group insurance underwriting, in particular assessing risk and pricing of Group Life, Short term/Long term disability, Health, Dental and other ancillary benefits. You will apply insurance underwriting standards for applications with a low to medium level of complexity. More specifically, you will be required to:
Be proactive in managing client requests and develop a clear understanding of the clients’ needs
Manage risk selection, plan design and pricing decisions for a block of renewals and quotations in the small to mid-size group insurance market
Assist Senior Group Underwriters with preparation of complex group renewal/quotes
Assist in the preparation of financial reporting for large VIP clients
Provide underwriting recommendations with clear documentation of decisions
Develop a strong working relationship with our Sales team and work in collaboration to acquire new business and sale renewals to existing clients
Process all assigned work in accordance with departmental service standards

What you bring to the table
College diploma related to accounting, business, finance, computer science, mathematics or a related field
A minimum of two years of relevant experience in a group insurance setting
Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
Industry courses taken and/or designations achieved (i,e; LOMA or CEBS) or willingness to obtain them
Strong understanding of group insurance concepts, products and contract provisions
Proficient knowledge of MS Office tools, specifically MS Excel
Communicates effectively, Decision quality, Situational adaptability
