We are looking for operators to safely monitor and operate the process equipment within our primary extraction plant area to optimize production in an environmentally responsible manner.

You will use your expertise to:
Ensure the safety of people, equipment, and the environment and that plant policies are followed and participate in incident investigations
Perform plant operation duties for smooth and efficient operations and ensure shift changes are well communicated
Prepare and complete daily area logs and communicate significant changes and findings in a timely manner
Provide direction and supervision to the maintenance and contract personnel performing maintenance and other operational duties during the assigned shift
Prepare equipment for maintenance including hazardous energy isolation of equipment as well as commissioning new equipment and systems
Ensure timely action and process adjustments during plant upsets that are consistent with operational objectives and target outputs
Maintain housekeeping at a high level to ensure a safe work environment

Must-haves (minimum requirements):
Two years of plant operations experience in ore prep and/or extraction within heavy oil and/or sour gas processing
Strong troubleshooting skills with a proven safety and environmental mindset and ability to make timely decisions associated with process upsets
You continually seek greater knowledge about the systems, processes and hazards in the workplace, in order to understand not just what you do but why you do it
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Preference for:
Experience with material sizing plants (sizers or crushers), conveyors, surge bin or dry surge pile, rotary wet screens (breakers or tumblers), pumps and pipeline, compressors, primary recovery circuit (separation cells), secondary and tertiary recovery circuits (flotation columns or agitators) and thickeners or clarifiers
Mechanical aptitude to manage hands-on operation of plant equipment such as operating loaders and skid steers
Adaptive work style with an ability to handle multiple priorities, challenging demands and function positively in a dynamic work environment
You do not take or tolerate shortcuts and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it
You are a problem solvers who constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems
Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

You will work out of our camp-based Fort Hills mining site, located in Alberta’s Athabasca region, 90 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Alberta
This position has been identified as safety sensitive
The shift schedule is a seven days on/seven days off, seven nights on/seven days off rotation
You will be required to do some heavy lifting, use of ladders and working on elevated work sites
You will need to perform work in both indoor and outdoor settings as well as within confined spaces
