About Keats Learning Academy
Keats Learning Academy is a BC-curriculum-based tutoring academy with locations in Lynn Valley, North Vancouver and Kitsilano, Vancouver. We are not a tutor-matching app. Families come to us because their student sees the same tutor every week, works from a written learning plan, and goes home with lesson notes a parent can actually read. We teach Kindergarten through Grade 12, and we are hiring for the senior end of that.
The Role
We are hiring a math and science tutor for students in Grades 8 through 12, in person at our Lynn Valley academy in North Vancouver.
This is a senior-level role. Our elementary and middle years are well covered. What we need is someone who is genuinely comfortable in a Grade 11 and 12 classroom: Pre-Calculus 11 and 12, Foundations of Math, and Calculus 12. If you can also teach Chemistry 11 and 12 or Physics 11 and 12, that is a significant asset and it fills your schedule faster than anything else on this page.
What you will do
Tutor Grades 8 to 12 in math, one on one and in small groups, in person in Lynn Valley
Teach to the BC curriculum, including Pre-Calculus 11 and 12, Calculus 12, and the Grade 10 numeracy assessment
Come to every session with the material ready, including the first session with a new student
Write a short lesson note after each session so families can see what happened and what is next
Follow the written learning plan we build for each student, and tell us when it needs to change
Keep the same weekly time blocks so your students see you at the same hour every week
What we are looking for
A university degree or an associate degree in mathematics, science, engineering, education or a closely related field. Final-year students are welcome to apply.
Confident teaching math up to and including Grade 12, Pre-Calculus 12 or Calculus 12. This role does not work for someone whose comfort ends at Grade 8 or 9.
Living in or near North Vancouver, or able to commute to Lynn Valley reliably for weekday after-school and early-evening sessions. Our students are booked into fixed weekly slots, so getting here on time, every week, matters more than it does in most jobs.
Availability you can hold to the end of the term. Tell us your real weekday afternoon and evening blocks. We schedule families into them, so we need the ones that will still be true in December.
Straight about your subject range. We would far rather hear "I am strong to Pre-Calculus 11 but I would not take Calculus 12" than find out mid-term. Nobody here is placed in a course they are not confident in.
Familiarity with the BC curriculum, or a real willingness to learn it properly.
A criminal record check for working with students, or willingness to complete one before your first session. We cover the cost.
Assets, not requirements: prior tutoring or teaching experience, formal or informal. And science alongside math. Chemistry 11 and 12 or Physics 11 and 12 with senior math gets you priority scheduling and the most hours on the schedule.
What we provide
Students matched to you. You are not finding your own clients, chasing payments or building your own materials.
A written learning plan for every student, structured booklets, and a scheduling system that is run for you. All scheduling goes through our office, so you are never negotiating times with parents yourself.
A physical academy to teach in, not a coffee shop or a living room.
Hours and pay
From $20.00 per hour, reviewed as your student load and subject range grow
Roughly 8 to 15 hours per week to start, weekday afternoons and early evenings, with some weekend availability useful. We would rather tell you the honest number than promise a full schedule we cannot fill.
Hours grow with your roster. Tutors who cover senior math and a science fill up fastest.
Paid as a part-time employee with monthly payslips, not as a contractor.
How to apply
Apply through Indeed with your resume. In your application, tell us in two or three sentences about one student you helped, what they were stuck on, and what changed. If you have not tutored formally, a classmate, a sibling or a lab section you demonstrated all count. Please also list the specific senior courses you are confident teaching, for example Pre-Calculus 12 or Chemistry 11.
Pay: $20.00-$30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 8.0 – 15.0 per week
