The Halifax Regional School Board (HRSB) is the largest school board in Atlantic Canada with over 8,000 full-time, part-time and casual employees. Serving 48,000 students in 134 schools, our geographic region spans a 350 km radius.

The Halifax Regional School Board (HRSB) has immediate openings for Substitute Teachers in all subject areas.

Candidates may apply on-line by registering for a myHRSB account and completing an online resume on our job application system, Careers at HRSB - myHRSB.ca.

Teachers are required to have a Nova Scotia Teacher's Certificate to teach in Nova Scotia. Details regarding application submission can be found through the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development’s website – certification.ednet.ns.ca

New applicants for the Substitute Teacher list must follow the steps below:

Apply on-line to the open Substitute Teacher job posting at www.myhrsb.ca/jobs.
Deliver in person the following documentation to Human Resource Services reception desk at 33 Spectacle Lake Drive in Burnside (partial submission will not be accepted):
Two written references from individuals who have observed the quality of your teaching (i.e. cooperation teacher, principal or university supervisor/advisor).
A copy of your valid Nova Scotia Teacher's License (number only will not be accepted).
An original or copy of original course transcripts to support B.Ed. and other post secondary studies.
A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (issued within the past three months - obtained from your local Police Department or RCMP).
A VOID cheque or bank deposit form completed by your financial institution.
All necessary new employee forms outlined on myHRSB (www.myhrsb.ca) under the "New Employee Orientation" dropdown menu link (select "First Things First").
A completed Child Abuse Registry – Request for Search form available in the New Employee Orientation section.
A copy of your Driver's License or Health Card to accompany the Child Abuse Registry search.

Once all documents have been submitted, new applicants to the HRSB Substitute Teacher pool will be set up on the automated substitute management system, AESOP, and receive an email with login ID and PINs. Substitutes are eligible to start accepting substitute assignments immediately after receipt of login information.

All term teaching positions within HRSB are posted on our website at www.myhrsb.ca/jobs. Postings are updated on Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m and occur weekly throughout the year.
