The Legal Assistant will provide support to our Legal department in a number of critical areas. This position will perform basic document drafting and review, design and maintain contract databases and similar information management systems, contract searches and filings, create reports, interact with insurance and risk management department, factual research, and special projects and provide general administrative support.

To be successful in this role, you will be expected to complete the following (not an exhaustive list of responsibilities):

Initiate and answer telephone calls; screen and direct calls and visitors to appropriate personnel; schedule and confirm appointments
Compose and type correspondences, memos, reports and presentation material reports
Process incoming and outgoing mail
Order and maintain necessary office supplies and forms
Respond to requests for information from other departments
Booking of travel and reconciliation of expenses
Process/code, track and coordinate payment of invoices
Conduct factual research and help resolve routine law questions under the guidance of supervising lawyer
Organize and maintain a department filing system of leases and contracts
Handle information requests to and from other company personnel, including research of legal matters and historical information from company records and information from other departments regarding corporate entities, commercial transactions and litigation
Review documents and transmit information and documents to outside counsel and company personnel with minimal guidance from supervising lawyer
Organizing large amounts of information, undertake, and execute complex tasks
Furnish assistance in corporate development transactions, including due diligence, review and preparation of schedules
Prepare presentations as required by manager
Administer routine contract requirements, where requested maintain contract calendar or follow-ups, prepare and file required reports
Develop and implement reports for monitoring outside legal spending
Collaborate with McCain counsel on other files as required, e.g. complex litigation, record management, compliance systems, registration of foreign representative office documentation etc.
Other projects/duties, some of a complex nature, as assigned or needed.
To be qualified for this role, you must clearly exhibit some or all of the following:

Education and Training

Appropriate administrative training
3+ years corporate legal or regulatory experience or comparable law/legal setting office experience preferable

Three to five years administrative experience supporting senior management positions
Skills and Attributes

Exceptional verbal/written skills with strong attention to detail
Ability to act with discretion and manage confidential and sensitive information
Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate, organize and prioritize multiple tasks
Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, using initiative and being proactive
Ability to develop professional working relationships and communicate at all levels in the organization and externally as required
Knowledge of basic legal concepts
Ability to manage a diverse workload and prioritize multiple projects
Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint & Excel)

English, other languages an asset

Able to work with little supervision
