MATRIX is seeking an experienced Executive Chef to lead our Camp Services culinary team. This position is rotational on a 21/21 schedule and will be based in a remote location in Nunavut, near Bathurst Inlet.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the culinary team in a remote camp setting, ensuring food service operations run smoothly and efficiently.
- Design menus, create recipes, and ensure food quality and presentation meet or exceed client expectations.
- Oversee food inventory control, including ordering, receiving, and storage.
- Maintain strict adherence to all food handling, safety and sanitation standards.
- Train and develop kitchen staff, ensuring proper knowledge and skills are obtained.
- Implement and monitor efficient and cost-effective cooking processes.
- Manage and maintain all kitchen equipment, ensuring proper functionality and cleanliness.
- Work collaboratively with project managers and clients to fulfill specific catering requests and dietary needs.
- Execute and oversee special events and functions.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Proven past experience as an Executive Chef or similar role, in a FIFO camp setting is required.
- Red Seal certification is a definite asset.
- Extensive knowledge of food preparation techniques, culinary trends, and best practices.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a remote and demanding environment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Certification in food safety and sanitation is required.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass pre-employment and ongoing drug and alcohol testing.
- Flexibility to work on a rotational schedule, 12 hour days.
