Mechanical Designer
Reports To
Engineering Manager
Summary
The Mechanical Designer brings ideas into reality, using their knowledge of the mechanical design process to design products for RHK’s customers and to assist with the assist with scope of work creation for cylinder repair. They are responsible for ensuring all RHK designed product meets customer requirements, all regulatory and statutory requirements, functional requirements and RHK design standards. Mechanical Designers also act as a technical resource for both sales and production, providing feedback and information on technical questions or issues from both internal and external customers.
Job Responsibilities & Duties
· Create preliminary designs or conceptualization of designs for customer approval.
· Design and prepare calculations, models, drawings and BOM’s from customer specifications, observation, measurements, sketches, RHK standards, and in accordance with existing proven designs as applicable.
· Perform computations to determine capacities, required strength of materials, and requirements for structural design.
· Provide technical input for customer quotes, including design feasibility and cost estimating
· Employ problem-solving strategies and find solutions to product design issues.
· Organize and maintain digital file database for each project.
· Assist with evaluation of non-conforming product and product failure analysis as necessary.
· Ensure compliance with all quality, environmental, and health and safety policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
· Generate concise reports when requested to communicate the status of assigned projects.
· Additional duties may be assigned
Qualifications & Experience
· Post-Secondary diploma in mechanical engineering technology or drafting, or degree in mechanical engineering or related field
· Knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD software and standard drafting practices is required, with preference for Inventor and AutoCAD
· Knowledge of stress analysis and tolerance analysis
· 2 years of experience within a manufacturing environment
· Knowledge of manufacturing, mechanical design, fluid power, or other related field
· Knowledge of ISO 9001 or other quality management systems
· Excellent communication skills, including listening, verbal and written
· Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and within a team
· Sound technical background (hands-on) with a logical deductive reasoning approach
· Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multitask and adapt to changing workloads
· Strong working knowledge of MS Office software
