Test Development Technician (electronics and soldering experience)
Procom is seeking a highly skilled Test Development Technician with strong hands-on soldering and PCB rework expertise to support the build and deployment of electronic test systems. This role is critical in ensuring high-quality test fixtures and reliable product validation, directly impacting engineering efficiency and product performance.
Location: Onsite - Ottawa
Duration: 6-month contract (potential for a permanent hire conversion).
Responsibilities
- Support the build, assembly, and manufacture of electronic test racks and fixtures to meet customer and engineering requirements
- Collaborate with Test Engineers to develop, commission, and troubleshoot test solutions
- Perform precision soldering on:
- Through-hole components
- Medium to large surface mount components
- Execute PCB rework and debugging to resolve defects and ensure functionality
- Install and configure test equipment within rack systems, including:
- Instrument installation
- Wiring routing and termination
- Build and install cables using appropriate tools (e.g., crimping tools)
- Assist with troubleshooting and continuous improvement of test systems
- Maintain documentation and follow established processes and visual aids
Required Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Proven ability to solder electronic components (through-hole and SMT) with high precision
- Certified solderer (IPC) or equivalent hands-on experience strongly preferred
- Experience with PCBA rework, repair, and debugging
- Ability to build test racks and fixtures from schematics and drawings
- Hands-on experience with:
- Wiring and cable assembly
- Crimping tools and installation techniques
