About Us
Basran Robin Allen & Desilets is a well-established boutique firm specializing in Family Law. We pride ourselves on providing high-quality legal representation with a compassionate approach. We are looking for a motivated Receptionist / Junior Law Clerk to join our team.
This is not just a reception role; it is a career opportunity. We are looking for someone eager to learn the ins and outs of Family Law, with a clear path to growing into a Legal Administrative Assistant within our firm.
The Role
You will be the first point of contact for our clients, many of whom are going through difficult times, so a warm, professional, and empathetic demeanour is essential. In addition to managing the front desk, you will assist our lawyers and senior staff with billable work, court filings, and file management, giving you hands-on experience in legal procedures.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Reception & Client Experience

- Manage a multi-line switchboard, screen calls, and direct inquiries to the appropriate lawyer or staff member.
- Maintain the tidiness of the reception area, boardrooms, and kitchen.
- Coordinate incoming/outgoing mail, couriers, and deliveries.
- Manage boardroom bookings and coordinate catering or refreshments when necessary.
- Handling payment of client accounts.
2. Junior Clerk & Legal Admin Support
- Growth Opportunity: Learn to draft basic legal correspondence and court documents under supervision.
- Assist with opening and closing client files, including conflict checks and physical file management.
- Prepare and organize court binders and materials for hearings.
- Perform court runs (filing documents at the courthouse) as needed.
- Assist with client billing, expense entry, and processing payments.
- Provide general administrative support to the legal team to ensure smooth file progression.
Qualifications
- Education: High school graduation required; completion of a Legal Administrative Assistant (LAA) certificate is preferred, but not mandatory if you have the right attitude.
- Experience: Previous experience in an office environment or customer service role is preferred.
- Tech Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) is required. Experience with legal software (e.g., PC Law, DivorceMate) is a bonus.
- Attributes:
- Eager to Learn: You have a genuine interest in Family Law and want to grow your career.
- Empathy: Ability to deal with sensitive family matters with discretion and kindness.
- Organization: Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a deadline-driven environment.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written English skills.
What We Offer
- Great Hours: 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM workday with a 30 minute break
- Mentorship: Direct exposure to Family Law files and training from senior staff and lawyers.
- Competitive Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
