SUMMARY

It is your job to work with the team leader to assist an individual to meet their goal of learning to swim, and their social, recreational, educational, and emotional goals and in the community as per their Individual Service Plans.
Reporting to the Executive Director/CEO, the Community Support Worker – Aquatic Support:
· identifies a Beaufort Association for Inclusion Participants’ strengths and preferences, and the social, recreational and learning opportunities available through community inclusion;
· provides emotional support and role modeling;
· identifies opportunities for learning and skills development that is person centered; and is
· collaborative with team members.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Works as a member of a team to provide a positive and safe environment for an individual wanting to swim.
2. Teaches appropriate and safe behaviors in and around the pool. This may include but is not limited to body blocking of off-limit areas and items and safely guiding an individual between activities within the pool building.
3. Identifies recreational and learning opportunities in the pool that will meet an individual’s needs and match their individual interests while working and following direction from the team leader.
4. Required to collaborate with lifeguards and pool staff and to represent the Beaufort Association for Inclusion in a positive manner.
ABILITIES/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE (Competencies)
- Being calm and patient with an individual while in and out of the pool and while providing community inclusion support.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively and respectfully address the physical support needs of individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others in both group and one to one setting.
- Demonstrated ability to use positive behaviour supports.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety standards and practices.
- Comfortable, calm and patient while managing crisis.
- Good written and verbal reporting skills.
QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience
- Grade 12 education.
- Strong swimmer comfortable in deep water.
- Current First Aid certificate.
- Prepared to follow Health protocols (e.g. mask and vaccination mandates)
