Drury Family Law is looking for an associate lawyer with approximately 3–5 years of family law experience to join our growing Calgary office.
This is not a role for someone who wants to disappear into document review or spend years waiting for meaningful court experience. We are looking for a lawyer who wants to build a serious family law practice, work on complex files, appear in court, deal directly with clients, and develop into a strong advocate.
Our firm practises exclusively in family law, with a focus on complex parenting disputes, support, property division, high-net-worth matters, financial disclosure issues, mediation, arbitration, and appellate work. We act for clients in difficult, high-stakes circumstances and take pride in giving practical advice, moving files forward, and advocating firmly where required.
The right candidate will be given real responsibility, strong mentorship, and the opportunity to work on interesting files from the outset.
The Role
As an associate lawyer at Drury Family Law, you will be expected to manage your own files while also working closely with senior counsel on more complex matters. You will have regular client contact, prepare court materials, attend court, participate in negotiations, and assist with strategy on litigation and resolution-focused files.
This position is well-suited to a lawyer who enjoys family law, wants to become genuinely excellent at it, and is looking for a firm where strong work is noticed and rewarded.
What You Will Be Doing
You will be responsible for:
- Managing family law files from intake through resolution;
- Drafting pleadings, affidavits, applications, briefs, agreements, and correspondence;
- Attending case conferences, chambers applications, mediations, arbitrations, and other court appearances;
- Advising clients on parenting, support, property, disclosure, and settlement issues;
- Working with senior counsel on complex litigation, financial disputes, and appellate matters;
- Developing practical litigation strategy and clear client advice;
- Maintaining strong client communication and organized file management.
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- 3–5 years of post-call experience, preferably with a strong focus on family law;
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta, or eligibility to become a member;
- Comfort appearing in court and managing litigation deadlines;
- Strong drafting, analytical, and advocacy skills;
- Sound judgment and the ability to give practical advice to clients;
- A professional, direct, and client-focused communication style;
- The ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment;
- A genuine interest in building a long-term family law practice.
Experience with complex financial issues, business interests, support claims, property division, relocation, arbitration, or appeals would be an asset, but is not required.
Why Join Drury Family Law
We are building a focused, modern family law firm with serious files and a high standard of practice. This is an opportunity to join a firm where you will not be treated as a small part of a large machine. You will have meaningful responsibility, direct mentorship, and the chance to develop your own reputation as a capable family law lawyer.
We offer:
- Interesting and challenging family law files;
- Strong mentorship and litigation support;
- Real court and client-facing experience;
- A collegial but ambitious work environment;
- Competitive compensation;
- Opportunities for professional growth and long-term advancement;
- Support for building your own practice and profile within the family law bar.
