Assessment accommodation

When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific job, but to an inventory for future vacancies. As positions become available, applicants who meet the qualifications may be contacted for further assessment.

Your application in this inventory will be active for 120 days. This process is being carried out in conjunction with external selection processes 2019-CSD-EA-MAN-13332 and 2019-CSD-EA-BC-13331. The same assessment tools will be used for all 3 processes. Should you apply on multiple processes, you will only be assessed once and the assessment results will be applied to all processes you applied on. Candidates who are eliminated from a process may re-apply if the inventory is still open and will be reassessed as long as they meet the waiting period requirement. The reassessment waiting period is 120 days from the date the written exam is sent. If you re-apply on any of these processes before the waiting period has elapsed, your application will not be considered.

The Career:
A Program Services Officer (PSO) is an exceptional individual who uses their excellent client service skills to make a difference in the lives of Canadians. We contact clients by phone and written correspondence while using various computer systems to maintain workload inventories. As a PSO, you will help clients understand program-specific legislation, procedures, and the processes required to receive services and/or benefits related to the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security. You will use a client focused approach when solving problems and tactfully gathering information that will help you process applications and review continued client eligibility for benefits. Physical and mental efforts are required to sit up for long periods of time while assessing and analyzing information, keyboarding, inputting data, and attending meetings.

A Service Canada Benefits Officer (SCBO) is an exceptional individual who uses their thinking and problem solving skills to make a difference in the lives of Canadians. You will use a client focused approach to analyze and make decisions on complex applications for benefits related to the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security. Taking into account each unique case, you will think critically and use your sound judgment when interpreting and applying policy and legislation. You will utilize your strong written and oral communication skills to document and explain your decisions to clients. You will be responsive to enquiries from clients and other key stakeholders on all aspects related to benefit entitlement. Physical and mental efforts are required to sit up for long periods while assessing and analyzing information, keyboarding, inputting data, and attending meetings.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to create a pool of qualified candidates at the PM01 (Program Services Officer) level, and a 2nd pool of qualified candidates at the PM02 (Service Canada Benefits Officer) level to staff positions within Employment and Social Development Canada in Edmonton, AB. This pool could also be used to staff similar positions of various tenures within Employment and Social Development Canada in Edmonton, AB.

Various volume management strategies, such as random and/or top-down selection of candidates, and screening based on degree of experience, may be applied at any stage of the selection process.

Secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (a satisfactory score on the PSC test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience)
