Duties
- Prepare and cook balanced, kid-friendly meals and snacks in accordance with the canadian food guide and dietary restrictions
- Serve meals with care, ensuring proper portioning and encouraging healthy eating habits
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness in all food handling and preparation areas
- Assist in menu planning to provide variety and meet the nutritional needs of children at different ages
- Monitor inventory levels, order supplies as needed, and ensure proper storage of all food items
- Follow all health department regulations and safety procedures during meal preparation and service
- Collaborate with staff to create a welcoming dining environment that promotes positive social interactions during mealtimes
Skills
- Proven experience in serving, food preparation, or cooking within a food service or restaurant setting
- Valid Food Handler Certificate, and Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
- Level 1, 2 or 3 Early Childhood Educator Certification
- Strong knowledge of food handling procedures, safety standards, and sanitation practices in the food industry
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate with staff and respond to children's needs during meal times
- Familiarity with kitchen equipment, utensils, and cooking techniques suitable for preparing meals for children
- Experience in meal planning that caters to the canadian food guide requirements and allergies
- Passion for promoting healthy eating habits in young children through engaging meal service
