Position Summary / Responsibilities:
We are currently seeking an experienced Machinist / Machine Operator to join a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will operate, set up and adjust conventional/manual machining equipment, including lathes, drill presses and grinders, to manufacture and modify precision parts.
Responsibilities include performing turning, facing, grooving, drilling, knurling and thread-chasing operations; fitting and assembling machined components to close tolerances; inspecting completed work using micrometers, gauges, calipers and other precision measuring instruments; and identifying and correcting equipment or tooling issues.
The Machinist will also read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, technical specifications and work orders, perform in-process inspections, document results and deviations, maintain production records and ensure work is completed according to quality standards and production schedules.
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience as a Machinist in a manufacturing environment
- Strong experience operating conventional/manual lathes, grinders, drill presses and related machining equipment
- Machinist trade diploma recognized by a Canadian government authority preferred
- 10+ years of directly related hands-on machining experience may be considered in place of formal education
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications and tolerances
- Experience using micrometers, gauges, calipers and other precision measuring equipment
- Strong knowledge of both metric and imperial measurement systems
- Experience setting up, adjusting and troubleshooting manual machining equipment
- Ability to manufacture and inspect components to close tolerances
- Strong mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Must be able to speak, read, write and communicate effectively in English
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
- Must be able to meet applicable security, confidentiality and controlled-access requirements, including NDA, criminal record/fingerprint screening, TB testing and ITAR-related eligibility requirements
