About the Role
Mianco Infrastructure is seeking a versatile and detail-oriented Grademan / Surveyor to support our civil infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, , underground utilities, stormwater ponds, and large-scale commercial site works. This field-based role combines responsibilities in layout, grade control, and survey with day-to-day interaction with field crews.
You will work closely with the General Superintendent and various Site Supervisors to ensure that all construction work is aligned with project drawings, specifications, and cut/fill requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesSurvey & Layout Duties
- Perform construction layout and staking for roads, underground services, lot grading, building pads, SWM ponds, and civil site works.
- Establish and maintain control points and benchmarks on site.
- Load and manage CAD files into GPS field systems (Topcon).
- Interpret engineering drawings, grading plans, and site plans to guide fieldwork.
- Prepare and provide cut/fill grade sheets and reference documentation for site crews.
- Perform topographic and as-built surveys when needed.
- Identify potential conflicts or discrepancies in plans and communicate them to the General Superintendent.
Grading & Field Coordination
- Set up and maintain GPS equipment (base and rover) on site for layout and machine control.
- Guide operators and field crews for accurate excavation, grading, and backfilling.
- Verify excavation depths, slope alignment, and surface tolerances using laser levels, GPS rovers, and total stations.
- Monitor daily progress of grading activities and adjust layouts to match site conditions.
- Collaborate with operators and site supervisors to correct grade errors or discrepancies.
- Perform regular inspections of completed grading work to ensure accuracy.
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of experience as a Grademan, Construction Layout Technician, or Field Surveyor in civil infrastructure.
- Strong working knowledge of Topcon GPS (base and rover) systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, grading plans, and profiles.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D to assist with loading and verifying field layouts.
- Hands-on experience with lasers, total stations, and other site layout tools.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Able to work in physically demanding conditions and in all weather.
- Valid Class G driver’s license (required).
Reporting Structure
This position reports directly to the General Superintendent, with daily coordination alongside Site Supervisors, Foremen, and Operators.
