Reporting directly to the Supervisor, this role is responsible for a variety of administrative duties within the HR Department. As the Summer Student, People Services, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
Assist in day to day administrative activities including preparing employee files, filing, answering the phone, preparing correspondences, etc.
Support a variety of key People Services initiatives and projects including compensation and policy benchmarking, job description/job evaluation review, and HR metrics.
Support the recruitment function, by creating job postings, maintain the Town’s applicant tracking system, screen applications, arrange interviews, prepare interview guides, administer employment testing, conduct reference checks, prepare offer of employment, etc.
Please note, Summer Student/ Intern positions will be subject to operational needs and dependent upon COVID-19 restrictions.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a student who is returning to a post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources, or related field. Our ideal candidate has minimum 1-2 years related administrative experience in a fast-paced environment. We are seeking someone with an understanding of current labour and employment legislation.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), calendar scheduling, and have some experience with applicant tracking systems. We are seeking an individual with superior analytical, organizational, decision-making and problem-solving skills, a demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and sensitivity, with the ability to communicate effectively and work in a team environment. We are seeking an individual with sound judgment, integrity, and objectivity.
Satisfactory proof of schooling or return to school, may be requested.
