SHE Builds Small Steps to Success Program Summary:
SHE Builds Small Steps to Success (SSTS) is an eight-week, holistic program that supports women and gender-diverse survivors of gender-based violence in building confidence, developing life and employment skills, and preparing for meaningful careers in the skilled trades. Through interactive workshops, employment preparation, hands-on learning, individualized support, and ongoing wraparound services, participants gain the tools, industry connections, and confidence to move toward education, employment, and long-term economic independence. The program is delivered in partnership with Women's Crisis Services of Waterloo Region, YWCA Cambridge, Conestoga College, the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region, and Interval House of Hamilton.
Job Overview
The SHE Builds Program Facilitator is responsible for ensuring participants receive coordinated, individualized support throughout every phase of the SHE Builds project. Working collaboratively with project partners, the Program facilitator provides participant navigation, case coordination, barrier reduction, data management, and wraparound support to promote successful transitions into skilled trades training and sustainable employment
Duties:
Outreach
- Conduct community outreach to recruit for the SHE Builds Small Steps to Success Program participants and educate community groups and individuals about the program and related pathways.
- Develop, maintain, and strengthen collaborative relationships with community organizations, project partners, referral agencies, employers, educational institutions, and other interest holders to support participant success throughout all stages of the program.
- Recruit potential participants, conduct follow-up calls, arrange interviews, and participate in the intake process in collaboration with the Program Navigator and Program Facilitator.
- Build and maintain employment and training partnerships that create opportunities for participants, including supporting transitions into skilled trades training and employment pathways.
- Deliver programming in accordance with all health and safety guidelines, organizational policies, funder requirements, and best practices.
- Ensure policies, procedures, and program practices remain current and reflect evidence-informed and participant-centred approaches.
- Build trusting, respectful relationships with participants through ongoing engagement, encouragement, coaching, and individualized follow-up throughout their participation in the program.
- Work closely with participants as they prepare for and transition into subsequent stages of the program, including skilled trades training opportunities with Conestoga College and other project partners.
- Collaborate closely with the Program Navigator to identify participant strengths, address barriers, coordinate supports, and ensure smooth transitions between each stage of the participant journey.
- Maintain regular communication with facilitators, project partners, and members of the program team as needed to ensure participants receive coordinated, responsive support and are well-positioned for success as they progress through the program.
- Nurture and maintain positive relationships with community partners, employers, volunteers, and training providers.
- Work with limited confidential participant information and ensure all data is collected, stored, and shared in accordance with YWCA Cambridge policies, funder requirements, and applicable privacy legislation.
Administration
- Assist in monitoring program expenditures and ensuring expenses align with approved budgets and funder requirements.
- Maintain accurate participant records, outcomes, case notes, and statistical information as required by funders, project partners, and YWCA Cambridge.
- Contribute to participant tracking and information sharing across the program team to support coordinated service delivery and seamless participant transitions.
Program
- Work with the program team to:
- Deliver workshops and program curriculum.
- Provide ongoing coaching, support, and follow-up to current and former participants.
- Evaluate and update workshop curriculum for both in-person and virtual delivery as required.
- Collaborate with project partners to coordinate participant supports, share appropriate information, and ensure continuity of care and service delivery throughout the participant journey.
- Work with the Program Navigator to ensure participants are connected to appropriate community resources and wraparound supports to address barriers related to employment, education, housing, childcare, transportation, wellness, or other identified needs.
- Advocate for participants to support their employment, education, and skilled trades goals.
- Support participants in preparing for and successfully transitioning into Conestoga College trades programming and other partner-led opportunities through ongoing communication, coaching, and collaborative planning.
- Assist in the planning and facilitation of programming and other employment initiatives as required.
Other
- Attend YWCA Cambridge staff meetings, project team meetings, and partner meetings as required.
- Represent the SHE Builds Small Steps to Success Program on community committees, collaborative tables, and partner meetings as appropriate.
- Stay informed of local labour market trends, skilled trades opportunities, community resources, and emerging employment needs.
- Promote and market the SHE Builds Small Steps to Success Program in collaboration with the Director of Communications and Advocacy and project partners.
- Support and uphold YWCA Cambridge's mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities.
- Work from a feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and participant-centred framework.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability while working collaboratively within a multi-partner project to support continuous program improvement and positive participant outcomes.
