Reporting to the Legal Administrative Services Manager, under direction of a solicitor and assistance of a Legal Assistant 3, the Legal Assistant 2 provides legal administrative support to assigned solicitor(s) on routine and diverse assignments and correspondence, and on complex files with assistance/direction. This includes drafting and assembling a variety of legal documents, routine communication with internal and external stakeholders, file intake and management, and assist with scheduling appointments / meetings if required. The position is required to handle a large volume of files.

Your education and qualifications include:

Legal Assistant Certificate from a recognized institution. May consider equivalent combination of education and experience.

Significant related experience working in a legal setting in real estate, land development and/or municipal law.

Ability to work under a moderate degree of independence with great attention to detail and with sound judgement and decision making.

Thorough knowledge of required policies and procedures, and legal terminology and processes.

Ability to create and maintain accurate records and files in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize workloads, and manage concurrent assignments with meeting strict, legislated deadlines.

Interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, outside solicitors/lawyers, department heads, City staff.

Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate information through various methods to multiple levels of the organization, stakeholders and the public.

Ability to handle confidential and politically sensitive matters with tact, diplomacy and integrity.
